The grandfather of contemporary Austrian music, Friedrich Cerha, masterfully sets the ultra-romantic words of poet Friedrich Hölderlin. These works betray the influence of the modern, yet nostalgic world of the seminal Viennese composer Alban Berg, whose unfinished opera Lulu was famously brought to completion by Cerha. A duo of concerto soloists, an orchestra of winds, a mixed choir, and a string sextet invoke the two kindred spirits.

Alban Berg, Chamber Concerto

Friedrich Cerha, 4 Fragments after Hölderlin
